Norwegian Cruise Line Announces the Order of Two New Cruise Ships from MEYER WERFT

Norwegian Cruise Line has very recently ordered a new very large cruise ship with MEYER WERFT GMBH of Germany. The new vessel will be delivered in October 2015 and there is the possibility that a second ship will be delivered during spring 2017 also! The new ship will come in at 163,000 gross tons and 4,200 passenger berths. It will be the largest in the Norwegian’s fleet and has the project name ‘Breakaway Plus’.

About MEYER WERFT GmbH

MEYER WERFT is based in Papenburg, Germany, and were founded in 1795. This company is owned by the sixth generation of the Meyer family and has a lot of history in ship building, including the construction of cruise ships, gas tankers and car passenger ferries. MEYER WERFT also has a long history with Norwegian. Right now they are constructing two new 146,600 gross ton, 4,000-passenger Breakaway class vessels for Norwegian. They have also built numerous other ships for the company in the past, including Norwegian’s four Jewel-class ships, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Jewel. The two new recently announced vessels by Norwegian will represent the tenth and eleventh that have been constructed by MEYER WERFT.

Norwegian Breakaway

There’s also a range of other entertainment, including the amazing comedy troupe The Second City, Howl at the Moon dueling pianos and the fantastic Slam Allen. The Norwegian Breakaway will also debut the restaurant of Celebrity Chef Geoffrey Zakarian, Ocean Blue. There’s also a range of fantastic activities on the top decks, with the first Aqua Park at sea, which has five full-size water slides and twin Free Fall. There’s even a three-story sports complex with houses the largest ropes course at sea, a whole nine-hole miniature golf course, a basketball court and a rock climbing wall!

With so much on offer, it’s easy to see why Freestyle Cruising is so popular!
