Carnival Raise Gratuities

Carnival cruises have announced that they will be increasing their gratuities as of December 1st. The raise will mean that each person will have to pay an additional $1.50 per day for the duration of their cruise. Anyone who has already paid their gratuities up front won’t be affected by this change.
Although some cruise lovers have not taken kindly to this announcement, the directer of the cruise line has pointed out that it is the first rise for 10 years (since 2001). It has brought Carnival cruises in line with other big cruise lines such as Princess, Royal Caribbean and NCL.

Not all cruise fans are disappointed to hear this news, with many seeing rises like this as being inevitable. The cost of living has increased for people all over the world, and therefore tips won’t go as far for staff as they used to.

Considering the substantial amount we spend on our holidays, it is unlikely that an extra $1.50 per day will make much difference to the overall cost. One less drink every 2-3 days should cover it, and many people tip more than the recommended amount anyway.
